During the week of April 9, the Rotary Club of Elgin sponsored a food pantry in partnership with Feeding Greater Elgin.  The pantry was made possible through a district simplified grant.

Members that came out to help were Randy Brittain, Mike Warren, Brian Borkowicz and Dave Considine,

The club will continue to support Feeding Greater Elgin as they move away from mobile food pantries and offer services in their new permanent location.. The new location will allow for more efficiencies and offer greater services to those who are in need of assistance.

More than 11,000 people live in poverty in Elgin and South Elgin (a family of four earning less than $22,350 per year) and more than half the children in Elgin schools participate in free or reduced-cost lunch programs.

A recent food insecurity study calculates over 19,000 adults and children in the city of Elgin are food insecure. Each month, more than 1,500 Elgin families travel outside of Elgin to receive emergency food assistance.
